Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club is hosting its annual Field Day from 2 p.m. June 22 to 2 p.m. June 23 at the 4H Fairgrounds on Route 77 in Mullica Hill, according to a press release.

Field Day is a nationwide exercise where amateur radio operators, also known as hams, come together to practice their skills in radio communication and emergency preparedness, setting up temporary radio stations in public locations to demonstrate the science and skill of amateur radio, according to the release.

Field Day is free to attend. There an open house to see some of the stations in action from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 22. The club is setting a station set up for visitors to try out and connect with other operators in the United States and Canada.

“We are looking forward to this. There are a lot of different preparations that go into planning this event,” the club’s corresponding secretary Mike Resnick said. “We are trying to see how many people we can contact during this 24-hour period.”
