Summer camps being held in Hunterdon County in 2024

It’s that time of year: the sun is shining, the days last longer and kids are out of school after a long year of learning. But that doesn’t mean that parents can take time off of work to care for their kids.

Hunterdon County families can find relief in some of the county’s 2024 summer camps.

In partnership with the YMCA of Hunterdon and Bucks Counties, Hunterdon County’s Parks and Recreation department is offering eight, five-day long camps throughout the summer, with half-day and full-day options. The camps take place at Echo Hill Park on Route 31 in Clinton Township.

According to the County’s “Hunterdon Parks Harbinger” brochure for Summer 2024, each week will have a different camp:

  • Slither and Slash - June 24 to June 28 - this camp will be “an unforgettable journey where curious minds can uncover the secrets of slithering snakes, magnificent turtles, and enchanting amphibians. You will even have a chance to get up close and personal with these incredible creatures.”

  • Surviving the Wilderness - July 1 to July 5 - this camp “will be packed with outdoor activities, survival skills, teamwork, and personal development” and “an unforgettable journey into the wild, where every moment is an opportunity for exploration, growth and building lasting connections with nature and fellow adventurers.”

  • Feathered Friends - July 8 to July 12 - this camp is described by Hunterdon County as “a week of bird explorations featuring our local feathered friends. From sparrows darting into the brush to hawks soaring in the air, we’ll discover the features of the birds that fascinate us. Join us for a week filled with bird watching, discoveries and a whole lot of feathered fun!”

  • Branching Out - July 15 to July 19 - at “Branching Out,” campers “will grow together and learn about all things plants, sticks and trees. Discover the powers of flowers and trees, build survival shelters with sticks and leaves and explore how even a dead tree teems with life.”

  • Wild and Crafty Creations - July 22 to July 26 - this camp will allow kids to “release their creativity in the beauty of the great outdoors! Through interactive and nature-infused craft projects and activities, this engaging camp fosters a love for both crafting and the environment in an interactive and exciting way.”

  • Bug Out - July 29 to Aug. 2 - this camp will “focus on insects for a creepy-crawly adventure! Let your camper unleash their inner entomologist, exploring nature’s tiny wonders, while making lifelong bug buddies!”

  • Mammal Mysteries - Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 - at Mammal Mysteries, kids will discover “the captivating world of Hunterdon’s mammals. With lessons on bats, beavers, bears and coyotes, each day promises hands-on fun, discussions, and role-playing.”

  • Dip, Dip, Drench - Aug. 12 to Aug. 16 - campers should “prepare to get wet this week and dive into why water is so important to our world! We will meet aquatic turtles up close, explore the insects and crayfish of the Prescott Creek and of course, cool off with a favorite camp game, Drip, Drip, Drench!”
