Artists’ reception for YouShine Movement being held May 31 in Princeton

KapuPatel Photography is holding an artists’ reception for its YouShine Movement on May 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Present Day Club in Princeton.

According to the reception’s Eventbrite, the YouShine Movement was created to “start a dialogue around the current definition of beauty as defined by society and media.”

YouShine invited 12 women and 12 teens in their naturally beautiful state to have a dialogue around what beauty means to them, according to a news release. There will not be a cost of admission for this event.

YouShine “urges us all as individuals and as a society at large to liberate ourselves from feature shaming, body shaming, color shaming and many more such narrow definitions of beauty. It is a movement of self-love and self-acceptance with all our perfect imperfections,” it was stated in a news release.

Kalpu Patel, owner of KapuPatel Photography, said YouShine is “a movement of self-love and self-acceptance with all our perfect imperfections. It is my vision to take this movement far and wide. The inspiring words from each of our campaign participants may touch someone at a moment in time when they need it the most.”

The Present Day Club was founded in 1898 by 29 women from Princeton “to create an intellectual and social center of thought and action among the women of Princeton and to stimulate an interest in science, literature, art, and social and ethical culture,” according to the club’s website.

Elizabeth Stabler, art curator of the Present Day Club, said the club is “thrilled to showcase Kalpana Patel’s exhibit.

The public is welcome to visit the club and experience the show on Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 609-924-1014.
